You're getting ready to "Walk the Walk" by moving to Hawaii. Let us help you be able to "Talk the Talk" when you get here

  1. Da Kine-Represents any person, place, or thing.
    Ex: We're going to Da Kine (the theatres) to see a movie.
  2. Haole-Used to mean foreigner, but has evolved to mean Caucasian 
    Ex: My Luxury Hawaii Real Estate Agents are Haole.
  3. Hapa-racially mixed
    Ex: Rachel is going to have hapa kids because she is marrying Kawika.
  4. Kalohe-Rascal, trouble-maker
    Ex: My son is a major kalohe.
  5. Kamaaina-local Hawaii resident
    Ex: I get local discounts because I'm a kamaaina
  6. Hanai - adopted.  In Hawaii most don't have family nearby so we've "adopted" the Hawaiian tradition of adopting who we want for our family.
    Ex: My hanai family is getting together for Christmas dinner.
  7. Mainland-the continental US including Alaska.  Please remember Hawaii Is a State, and you will be going back to the Mainland after your vacation - not back to the States!!
    Ex: I'm going to visit my friends on the mainland.
  8. Ohana-Family
    Ex: My ohana and I are moving to Hawaii.
  9. Pau-Finished, done
    Ex: Is dinner almost pau? Because I'm starving.
  10. Slippahs-Flip Flops, Thongs
    Ex: I got the cutest slippahs the other day at the mall.
  11. Stink Eye-Dirty look
    Ex: My neighbors always give me stink eye when you walk through their grass.
  12. Talk Story-Have conversation
    Ex: Those girls always talk story in class.
  13. Vog-Volcanic smoke
    Ex: The Vog is really strong today because the wind is blowing mauka(towards the mountains).
  14. Wahine-Woman
    Ex: There are a lot of Wahine in the water today.
  15. ...yeah?-right?
    Ex: You're using Luxury Hawaii Properties to buy a home in Hawaii, yeah?
